Software & Equipment

The Applications Support Engineer (ASE) is responsible for providing a high level of customer service by maintaining regular communications, managing support cases, and meeting the customer’s expectations. The ASE will competently represent EDMIS to customers in a confident and professional manner and use customer interactions to build the EDMIS brand.

The ASE works closely with the EDMIS sales and operations team and our customers to provide a premium level of applications and service support. The ASE must become a subject matter expert on our product portfolio, customer applications and needs, and contractual obligations. The ASE completes measurement applications services, field service support and new systems installations while focusing on maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction for all customers.

The ASE will be expected to have the technical background needed to confidently assist the EDMIS team in the delivery of a first-class support experience to our rapidly expanding and broad customer base. This position is based in Bartlett, IL.


  • Complete measurement applications services and generate measurement inspection reports for customers.
  • Provide on-site applications support, technical service, maintenance and installations for all EDM Intelligent Solutions equipment and perform administrative activities associated with technical work.
  • Improve the customer experience with EDMIS by recognizing their needs and providing solutions that meet and often surpass those needs. Contribute ideas toward process improvements.
  • Assist in the assembly and testing of EDMIS systems for customer acceptance testing in Bartlett, IL before the systems are shipped to the customers final installation
  • Participate in industry conferences and trade shows
  • Communicate effectively both internally and externally, utilizing a CRM system to document actions and tasks performed, schedule future preventive maintenance needs, and other applications engineering functions.
  • Gain detailed technical knowledge of EDM Intelligent Solutions systems through formal classroom, online training, and OJT.
  • Work effectively as a team member assisting when and where needed. Become knowledgeable about and follow company procedures.


  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a related technical field.
  • 1+ year of relevant work experience in a service/sales/support role is preferred.
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools and ability to carry tools/parts from vehicle to work site. Able to lift 75 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to travel by air and ground, within the United States, to customer facilities. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet and maintain a qualified driver’s status.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Other Language skills are a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and customer service/soft skills.
  • Creative, organized, and strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized and responsible to effectively plan, execute, and document technical support applications.
  • Must be able to complete work responsibilities with little supervision. Effectively exercise personal discretion and independent judgment.
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment, robotics, microscopy, metrology, and measuring equipment is a plus.
  • Basic experience with computer programming languages like C++/CLI, C#, .Net, WPF, SQL, MySQL, PHP is a plus.
  • Basic experience working with server, desktop and business computer and networking hardware is a plus.
  • Basic working knowledge of electrical and electronics installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of systems utilizing 12v, 24v, 110v, 220v and 480v operating voltages is a plus.
  • Basic working knowledge of pneumatics system installation, maintenance and troubleshooting with operating pressures up to 150psi is a plus.

Machining & Manufacturing

Tool Maker / Mold Maker

The Tool Maker / Mold Maker is responsible for analyzing specifications for tool/mold requirements, laying out fabrication processes needed as well as creating and repairing components for die and mold tooling, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures and various other tight tolerance products.This position is tasked with programming various shop equipment (vertical mills, wire and sinker EDMs, grinders, etc…) using the information provided on a part drawing using CAD/CAM or directly into the machine depending upon the machine type. The tool maker in this position selects the appropriate fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and the sequence of operations to achieve the intended part specifications. Other responsibilities also include starting and monitoring the machines as jobs run, First Piece Inspection, In-Process Inspection, Last Piece Inspection, etc…


  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts and molds.
  • Possesses a complete set of toolmaker skills with all shop equipment (milling, Wire, Sinker precision grinding, polishing and fitting) and able to make part to print.
  • Grinds and fits assemblies together, and into mechanisms.
  • Possesses advanced manual machining skills including: milling contours, engraving, turning threads, boring pockets; grinding flats, diameters, shoulders, slots, and dressing radii.
  • Able to perform machining operations with a specified degree of accuracy and within a timely manner.
  • Has working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of gauges, precision measuring instruments, and all necessary inspection equipment.


  • 6+ years hands on experience in the EDM and/or mold making industry operating CNC and EDM machines
  • EDM and Grinding experience with mold components and electrodes
  • Functional understanding of mold assemblies
  • Ability to work within tolerances of +/-.0002″ regularly
  • Experience grinding various tool steels (S7, A2, D2, 420SS) and other exotic metals
  • Ability to use inspection equipment
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as to work requirements.
  • Must have your own basic set of close tolerance tooling and fixtures (micrometers, calipers, parallels, angle plates, vise, etc. . .)

Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for evaluating and developing manufacturing processes, improving manufacturing efficiency, supporting daily manufacturing operations, evaluating quality and inspection methods, and coordinating maintenance of manufacturing equipment. This position also uses the information provided on a part drawings using CAD/CAM to select the appropriate manufacturing process and sequence of operations required to achieve the intended part specifications. Responsibilities also include creating project routers, selecting materials, tooling, fixtures, and piece part inspection.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting manufacturing routers; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; soliciting observations from machinist.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Provides support with quality management system an AS9100 standard requirements
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.


  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Must understand manufacturing processes that utilize material removal technologies.
  • Proficiency in Solid Works and 3D modeling
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or manager, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills are a must.

Manufacturing Associate

The Manufacturing Associate is responsible for assisting with day to day machining operations by gathering tools, fixtures, materials and other items used in the manufacturing of components per design specifications as well as helping tend to active machining cells by inspecting completed runs, making minor maching adjustments and troubleshooting machine errors.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve and setup up work holding fixtures, jigs and assemblies to be used in the machines for production
  • Organize and inventory consumable items for machining centers (drills, taps, electrodes, oils, etc…)
  • Work with physical and electronic blue prints and part drawings
  • Complete basic CAD/CAM layouts for rough machining, drilling, milling and grinding
  • Prepare raw materials for manufacturing by sorting, rough machining, drilling, milling and grinding
  • Measure parts and monitor tolerances throughout multiple production processes
  • Assist in troubleshooting machine runs and making minor machine adjustments as necessary
  • Maintain safe working operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Perform basic required preventive maintenance on machine cells as needed
  • Promote continuous improvement to quality and productivity within department
  • Utilize team work approach to achieve satisfactory results and promote a positive “can do” attitude


  • Currently working towards an Associate or Bachelor degree with a focus in industrial machining and manufacturing technologies or equivalent experience is required.
  • Complete one semester of basic operations on manual (Bridgeport or similar) or CNC mills (Haas or similar), lathes or other general machine shop equipment or have equivalent experience.
  • Possess strong math skills, proficient and comfortable in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and part drawings along with the use of basic geometric and trigonometric principles needed to calculate dimensions and tolerances
  • Ability to use inspection equipment to inspect (micrometers, indicators, etc…) your own work is a must
  • Experience opening and reading electronic blue prints (.pdf, .dwg, .slddrw)
  • Must have mechanical aptitude, good with your hands, not be afraid to get dirty
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite

Optional Skills:

  • Experience in a CAD/CAM environment like AutoCAD Inventor, SolidWorks, MasterCam, etc…
  • Experience with computer programming languages like C+, C#, Java, HTML, PHP, SQL, MatLab, etc…
  • Experience in assembly, maintenance and repair of machine and support equipment

Quality Control Technician

The QC Technician, tasked with the inspection of various plastic injection molds, molding components, tooling dies and punches, is an essential component in our quality control department. The QC Technician will inspect incoming, in-process, and finished parts and record the results accordingly. The technician will also be responsible for reporting any parts with non-conformances to production for timely corrective actions and then follow up with production to confirm the corrective actions were both completed and effective. The hired candidate will be trained at our facility on all required positional tasks.  

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Performs inspections as defined by the inspection and/or Process Control Plan using engineering drawings and specifications and complete required documentation
  • Work with physical and electronic engineering drawings and inspection reports
  • Collects data, analyzes and reports results.
  • Performs measuring and test equipment verification.
  • Inspects and dispositions initial samples.
  • Identify and quarantine suspect product.
  • Documents and reports incorrect or substandard methods, materials and packaging.
  • Verifies that parts and assemblies are clean and free of contamination and or damage.
  • Is observant and attentive to the condition of all equipment, and facility.
  • Participates in continuous improvement team meetings as required.
  • Maintain safe working operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Utilize team work approach to achieve satisfactory results and promote a positive “can do” attitude


  • High School Diploma is a minimum – education with a focus in machining technologies preferred
  • 1-5 years experience as a QC Technician in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with tight tolerances is a must
  • Ability to read complex blueprints and use a variety of geometric and trigonometric principles to interpret dimensions and tolerances
  • Ability to use measuring and inspection equipment (micrometers, indicators, optical comparators, etc…)
  • Ability to work with electronic blue prints (.pdf, .dxf, .slddrw, etc…)
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite

Manufacturing Support

The Manufacturing Support technician is responsible for help carry out day to day functions including preparation for shipping, receiving shipments, taking inventory of supplies, basic preventative maintenance to manufacturing equipment as well as general facilities maintenance.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Distribute manufacturing supplies to different production departments.
  • Prepare product for shipment and receive and inspect incoming materials.
  • Organize and maintain daily shop supply inventory
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly.
  • Check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other basic maintenance actions, following checklists.
  • Perform basic facilities maintenance and organization, clearing trash and recycling, clearing spills, changing lightbulbs, etc…


  • Basic experience with general hand tools (screwdriver, wrench, etc…)
  • General experience preparing shipments for UPS and FedEx.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 75lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks during one shift.
