Materials Science Engineer

The Materials Science Engineer - Metallurgist conducts research to develop and improve EDM methods on various types of metals: Tests for strength and chemical composition. Performs periodic evaluations of data and product tests to develop improved EDM techniques and practices in product manufacture. Assists engineering staff in selecting materials, developing designs and improving processes to ensure product meets design intent and customer requirements. Works with management to propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

 

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field of study

  • Minimum 5+ years of related metallurgical work experience preferably in a related manufacturing environment
  • Background with metals, castings and global sourcing
  • Background with materials testing and analysis including corrosion and manufacturing
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as to work requirements.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment
  • Excellent computer skills including statistical software

  • Read and understand blueprints and Geometric Tolerance
  • Ability to work within tolerances of +/-.0002" regularly

Sinker EDM Operator

The Sinker EDM Operator is responsible for setting up and running jobs independently. The operator will program various sinker EDM machines using the information provided on a part drawing using CAD/CAM or directly into the machine depending upon the machine type. The Sinker EDM Operator will select the appropriate fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and the sequence of operations to achieve the intended part specifications. Responsibilities also include starting and monitoring the machines as jobs run, First Piece Inspection, In-Process Inspection, Last Piece Inspection, and minor maintenance on sinker machines in the cell as necessary. The Sinker EDM Operator will assist in other manufacturing areas as necessary.

 

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience operating CNC and EDM machines
  • Grinding experience with mold components and electrodes
  • Functional understanding of mold assemblies
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as to work requirements.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment
  • Read and understand blueprints and Geometric Tolerance
  • Ability to work within tolerances of +/-.0002” regularly
  • Must be able to provide your own close tolerance tooling and fixturing

Wire EDM Operator

The Wire EDM Operator is responsible for setting up and running jobs independently. The operator will program various wire EDM machines using the information provided on a part drawing using CAD/CAM or directly into the machine depending upon the machine type. The Wire EDM Operator will select the appropriate fixtures, wire size, feed rates, cutting speeds and sequence of operations to achieve the intended part specifications. Responsibilities also include starting and monitoring the machines as jobs run, First Piece Inspection, In-Process Inspection, Last Piece Inspection, and minor maintenance on wire machines in the cell as necessary. The Wire EDM Operator will assist in other manufacturing areas as necessary.
