Our team at EDM Intelligent Solutions utilizes unique 3D Metrology equipment to quickly and accurately measure components with intricate geometry of all shapes and sizes. With our 3D Metrology Services, we are able to offer our customers in-depth, non-contact, and non-destructive measurements of almost any shape, size, and form. 

Below is an example of a high-resolution 3D mesh created from a scan of a medical device sample part. The creation of 2D Profiles through the scanned 3D surface allows our team to inspect part form aspects including radii, angles, slot width, height steps, diameter, circularity/cylindricity and more. 

The form inspection, GD&T, and 3D measurements of this component were completed using our MVi5 3D Metrology Center.

Captured Mesh

Difference Measurement

This image displays a 3D scan of a manufactured part, visualized with a color map indicating deviations from a nominal design. The color bar on the right, ranging from blue (-0.05000 mm) to red (0.05000 mm), shows that most of the part is within acceptable tolerance, represented by green and yellow hues. However, there are areas of significant deviation, particularly in the central rectangular cutout with multiple holes, which appears to be undersized (blue) and the outer rim which shows some red and yellow indicating it is oversized. The overall shape suggests a component with a complex internal structure and precise external dimensions.

The analysis compares nominal (ideal) dimensions with actual measured dimensions, highlighting deviations. For instance, 'Circle 1' shows an actual diameter of +0.25645 against a nominal of +0.25400, resulting in a deviation of +0.00245. Similarly, 'Circle 8' has an actual diameter of +0.25801 and 'Circle 5' has an actual diameter of +0.25731, both with positive deviations from their nominal value of +0.25400. The overall outer boundary also shows deviations from a perfect circle, indicated by the red line overlaying the gray outline.
