EDM Department specializes in Sinker EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) is also referred to as Conventional or Ram EDM. Sinker EDM offers the ability to produce complex shapes without inducing stresses into the material and provides low-risk machining solutions for dies, molds, or parts with previous machining or labor hours. This process is ideal for any company looking to minimize machining risk with accuracy and reliability.

What’s the difference between Sinker EDM & Wire EDM?

Unlike wire EDM, sinker EDM does not cut all the way through the material (unless desired), resulting in a wider variety of applications, such as blind cavities/keyways, thin walls, or cross sections. This versatility makes sinker EDM an efficient technology for stamping dies and injection molds. Our vast library of EDM generator technologies offers the best surface finishes available in a multitude of materials. By maintaining strong and ongoing relationships with our technology partners we are able to stay on the forefront of Sinker EDM capabilities and meet the ever-evolving needs of our customers. EDM Department provides prototyping, production, and contract manufacturing Sinker EDM services. We will work with you in providing the best solution to your most difficult EDM project requirements. • Standard tolerances (0.0010" to 0.0005") and high precision tolerances as tight as 2µm
  • Micromachining tolerances of 1µm and below
  • Feature Sizes as Small as 40µm
  • Aspect Ratios up to 38:1
  • Fine (micro) hole diameters as small as 40µm
  • Surface finishes down to 4Ra µin (micro inch)
  • Small quantities of 1-50+ pieces

As our name suggests, Sinker EDM is our specialty. We've done thousands of Sinker EDM projects and what differentiates us significantly from our competition is our ability to not only hold micron tolerances but to offer globally competitive pricing and lead times as well. With a vast knowledge of conventional EDM and 20 years' experience, we are confident we can produce your next RAM EDM project to your exact specifications. A few projects we have completed include:
